Young woman wounded in shooting outside Loop Macy's was likely not intended target: police

A 19-year-old woman who was shot outside a Loop Macy’s Saturday night may not have been the intended target, according to police reports obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times.

Just before the shooter opened fire in her direction, an altercation between two groups of male teens had occurred, according to a report.

Investigators learned the victim was “not likely the intended target,” the report said.

The assailant, only described as a male teen wearing a gray hoodie, shot her in the leg left, pelvis and right hand just before 9 p.m., when the young woman was in a crosswalk outside Macy’s, 111 N. State St.

Paramedics loaded her in a stretched and carried her from Macy’s, where she ran for help, and she was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition, officials said.

Moments after the shooting, people could be seen outside Macy’s running for safety as holiday festivities took place nearby, including the second day of Christkindlmarket at Daley Plaza.

Police were reviewing footage from private cameras as well film from police observation device (POD) cameras.

No one was reported in custody Tuesday afternoon.
