After giving drivers a break over the weekend, the city began enforcing its overnight winter parking ban early Monday with over 200 cars towed.
There were 244 cars towed beginning at 3 a.m. Monday for violating the city’s winter overnight parking ban, according to a Department of Streets and Sanitation spokesperson.
Last year, 263 vehicles were towed on the first day of enforcement.
The 3 to 7 a.m. ban officially began Sunday but the department decided not to tow until Monday because of the holiday weekend. Instead, the city left warning fliers on cars parked on the restricted streets.
The overnight parking ban lasts from Dec. 1 to April 1 and is enforced regardless of snowfall.
Violators are towed and hit with a fine of at least $235, which includes a minimum $150 towing fee, a $60 ticket and a storage fee of $25 per day. Towed vehicles will end up at a pound at 10301 S. Doty Ave. or 701 N. Sacramento Ave.
The ban affects about 107 miles of main streets throughout the city.
